The patented system is for producing RTA (cross-folded) outserts.
Outserts, which have become the standard for providing information in the pharmaceutical industry, are leaflets with the final series of panels folded inward and secured to form closed leaflets which will not spring open during packaging operations or while affixed directly onto product containers.

Designed to fold compact, evenly folded outserts using only paper and glue…
The folders in the outsert system are built to handle the light-weight stock generally used for pharmaceutical and miniature leaflets.
Folding plates are designed with narrow ribs to accommodate miniature-size folding.

Station I options are:
   • Vijuk–G&K (GUK) FA 53 Folder with 14 or 16 plates.
   • Vijuk–G&K (GUK) FA 43 Folder with 12 plates.
Station II is a 4-plate Vijuk–G&K (GUK) Folder modified with special folding rollers, plates, and pressure roller to handle the thick, small-size leaflets.
The system has two knife folders and an integrated pressing device.

Improvements in efficiency and size…
Outsert systems are PLC controlled and are equipped with a modem for off-site diagnostic analysis.
Components are modular and mobile, allowing the system to be easily reconfigured based on the job.

R6 Round-Pile Feeder...

The continuous-load feeder handles sheets up to 40" in length. Long and difficult-to-feed sheets are transferred by the top-suction wheel (1) (shielded by a safety cover) aided by air blasts from the front and from ADJUSTABLE FLOATING BLOWERS(2) on each side of the pile. 3 The ELECTRONIC DOUBLE-SHEET DETECTOR

Suction heads lift the sheets at the REAR SEPARATING FEED SYSTEM (1). Air blasts aid the feeding of long or difficult-to-handle sheets.

2 A DRUM SUCTION INFEED WHEEL, shielded by a safety cover, transfers the paper toward the folding rollers.
The rear separating feed system lifts up and out of the way for easy loading.
Optional quick-set double-sheet detector and /or side air blasts are available to ensure accurate feeding.

“Intelligent” self-teaching jam detection…
The ELECTRONIC JAM DETECTING SENSOR (1) is one of ten on the outsert system. Sensors throughout the system each record the time a sheet passes its point. During production, if the product does not pass a sensor point at the proper time, the operation preceding that point will shut down to prevent further jamming and to minimize downtime.
FA 53 Folder touch-screen controllers…

1 The hhs® CONTROLLER controls water scoring, hhs barcode scanning (optional), and glue application.
2 The L-4 CONTROL UNIT is used for setting up production speed, total, batch, and production counts, the double-sheet ejection system, and recording the sheet and fold lengths for the various monitoring devices.
Programmed jobs can be stored for recall.

FA 53 Folder double-sheet ejection system…


Production is not interrupted when double sheets are fed. The DOUBLE-SHEET DETECTOR (1) activates the air-opening cylinders (2) that open the gate (3) through which double sheets are ejected before they reach the folder. The system is not stopped.




Water scoring…


Accurate, tight folds are accomplished with the combination of water scoring (1) and rotary scoring.
